How Do I Get to Know God Better?

If someone asked you, "How do I get to know God better?" what would you say?

It's a question many Christians ask at some point in their faith. We want to grow closer to God, but with so many books, podcasts, devotionals, and Bible studies available today, it can be easy to wonder where to begin.

While each of those resources can be helpful, sometimes we overlook the greatest gift God has already given us for knowing Him: His Word.

The Bible Reveals the Character of God

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible isn't simply a collection of stories or moral lessons. It's the unfolding story of God revealing Himself to His people.

As we read Scripture, we meet a God who is holy and just, yet overflowing with mercy and steadfast love. We see His faithfulness through generations, His compassion for the broken, His patience with sinners, and His perfect plan of redemption through Jesus Christ.

Every page helps us know Him a little better.

Eternal Life Begins Now

One of my favorite verses is John 17:3:

"This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent—Jesus Christ."

I love the way Jesus describes eternal life. It isn't simply something we receive one day when we reach Heaven. Eternal life is a relationship that begins today.

What an incredible invitation! We don't have to wait until we see God face to face to begin knowing Him. We can grow in intimacy with Him every single day.

God has given us many ways to deepen our relationship with Him through prayer, worship, fellowship with other believers, and the work of the Holy Spirit. But one of the most accessible ways—especially for many of us—is simply opening our Bibles and reading His Word.

Why This Matters for Our Children

As a mom, this changes the way I think about reading the Bible with my children.

Of course I want them to know the stories of Scripture. I want them to understand Noah's ark, David and Goliath, Esther's courage, and the life of Jesus.

But even more than that, I want them to know the God of Scripture.

My deepest prayer is not that they would simply accumulate Bible knowledge, but that they would develop a genuine hunger for God's Word because they long to know Him personally.

Biblical literacy matters because it leads us to the One who gave us His Word.

A Small Tool for a Big Purpose

That heart is what inspired Color in Truth.

My prayer is that the Scripture Scrolls would be one small tool that helps families engage with God's Word together. As children color their way through books of the Bible, my hope is that conversations begin, questions are asked, and hearts are drawn toward the God who reveals Himself through Scripture.

The goal has never been coloring for its own sake.

The goal is helping families spend time in God's Word and grow in their knowledge and love of Him.
